Storytelling #1 – During the storytelling workshop, several participants shared their life stories. A participant from Portugal shared with us how through grief she learned an important lesson in life – live in the moment and be present. She shared how precious life is and not to take anything for granted. I was inspired by her wisdom and her story was a great reminder to live fully in the present moment.
Storytelling #2 – During the training, a teacher from Romania shared about hosting refugees from Ukraine. They were two sisters waiting for a training ticket to Poland where their mother was based. I was touched by this teacher’s kindness. Additionally, the teacher shared how her school started to host Ukrainian students and shared the difficulties at the beginning due to language barriers.
Storytelling #3 – During the training, I had the opportunity to meet the daughter of one of the participants, a refugee from Yemen. She is a fourth-grade student in Sweden. She shared with me that her favorite subject is math and I complimented her for her English. When her father shared that I was a student at Harvard, she said, “I cannot believe it!” I promised that I would send her a postcard from Harvard once I went back to school. Later, her father, shared with me that she kept talking how inspired she was. Her dream is to teach math at Harvard one day.
In these stories, I see a common thread of women empowerment and the power of stories.
